Reggae Splash I by expressyourselve....

I hope u will like the following two sets, dedicated to reggae, Rastafarian religion and movement.

I tried to reconsider several artists in the two sets, I took continence several time Israel Vibration because of they are two singers and their burn the place down, no matter of polio, just respect to the guys.

I don’t wont to speak much about it, it is not necessary anyone know most of the artists, if not now u will.

So I hope u will enjoy it....

Burning Spear is Winston Godfrey Rodney, who came to reggae after he met Bob Marley in 1969 and in a talk pronounced his wish to be Reggae musician as singer and songwriter, Bob directly helped him to start and recommended Studio One. His debut single was “Door Peep”. Spears strength was his conviction of philosophy of Marcus Garvey.

He took the name of first president of independent Kenya. In further life Burning Spear was nominated for 12 Grammy awards and won in 2000 for Calling Rastafari and in 2009 Jah is real.

Linton Kwesi Johnson, LKJ, is living in UK where he is a poet and as performer on intermittent basis. He degreed in sociology and became Honorary Visiting Professor of Middlesex University in London. Since school days is he a member of British Black Panther movement. His poetry is political, dealing mainly with the experiences of being an African-Caribbean in Britain, the poems contain graphic accounts of the alleged racist police brutality.

Israel Vibration, Lascelle “Wiss” Bulgin, Albert “Apple Gabriel” Craig, and Cecil “Skeleton” Spence all overcame childhood polio and went on to be one of the most successful roots groups to form in Jamaica in the late 1970s. The trio initially met as children at a rehabilitation center. “Strength of my Life”, the group's fourth album and first of 18 CD releases on the RAS label, was met with great praise and is considered one of the few post-golden era touchstones of the roots reggae genre.

Martha Velez, is the only American artist for whom Bob Marley functioned as musical producer, the results were “Escape From Babylon”. In her debut rock and blues album was featured Eric Clapton and Christine McVie (Fleetwood Mac). She was married with Keith Johnson.

Peter Tosh, Winston Hubert McIntosh, was former member of legendary band “The Wailers”. Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer and Bob Marley met them in the early 60-ies and where performing on corner of the slum called Trenchtown. They chose the name Wailers because to “wail” means to mourn or to “...express ones feelings vocally”.

His debut album as solo performer was called “Legalize it”. Peter was killed in 1987 at his home during “a robbery”.

Third World, was founded in 1973 and became known thru the song “Now that we found love” in 1978, was from then on working with leading musician like Stevie Wonder… In their style there are influences of soul, funk and disco music.

Junior Delahaye, is an sound engineer and musician who plays drums, guitar, keyboard, bass guitar…, he made a solo album in 1982, he was working for artist like John Clarke, Jah Batta, Clive Field Marshall….

Dave Robinson, not much is known about this particular singer apart from having minor hits in the late seventies such as “Chaga Chaga Warrior” and “Chant To Jah”, the latter which he made his debut with in 1975.

Jacob Miller, he became the lead singer for reggae group Inner Circle with whom he recorded until his death in a car accident at the age of 27. He was the uncle of Maxi Priest.

Bunny Rugs, William Clark lead soulful singer of Third World. He emigrate to New York in 1968 and went in 1976 to a gig of Third World in The Bottom Line at Village and met their his old friend Cat Coore, one of former of Third World, they know each other from their time with Inner Circle group 1970-1972.
